Announcement 2023

The 2023 laureate was announced on March 7 at a press conference in Stockholm and at the Children's Book Fair in Bologna. Here you can see photos from the announcement.

Swedish Minister for Culture Parisa Liljestrand held an opening speech, followed by Jury Chair Boel Westin who announced the 2023 laureate. The program concluded with a presentation of the laureate by jury member Elina Druker. The host of the event was the poet Athena Farrokhzad.

The 2023 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award laureate is the American author Laurie Halse Anderson. In her richly expressive novels for young people she gives voice to the adolescent experience with sometimes brutal honesty. The yearning for love and belonging is a recurring theme for Anderson.
