“I’m in shock”

Wolf Erlbruch on his relation to Astrid Lindgren, the period following the award announcement, and his advice for children and young people who like to draw.

Wolf Erlbruch’s comment after the announcement:

“Oh, Astrid, I love you! You didn’t know me, but I’ve known you for a long time through your books, which I love for their acuity and their sense of humour. It’s a universal humour that everyone can appreciate. I never thought I would be receiving the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, but now I know it’s true. I’m still in shock and I’m sure I will be for a while. But it’s wonderful!”

Wolf Erlbruch is one of Germany's foremost illustrators and picture book authors. He has authored some ten books and illustrated nearly fifty titles by other authors. Books like The Story of the Little Mole Who Knew It Was None of His Business and Duck, Death and the Tulip are known and loved all over the world.
