Wolf Erlbruch’s comment after the announcement:
“Oh, Astrid, I love you! You didn’t know me, but I’ve known you for a long time through your books, which I love for their acuity and their sense of humour. It’s a universal humour that everyone can appreciate. I never thought I would be receiving the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, but now I know it’s true. I’m still in shock and I’m sure I will be for a while. But it’s wonderful!”

Wolf Erlbruch is one of Germany's foremost illustrators and picture book authors. He has authored some ten books and illustrated nearly fifty titles by other authors.
